What is this flower called?

Laura really loves these plants and we can’t remember what they’re called … does anyone know? It’s some kind of bush if that helps.

[EDIT : It's a bougainvillea, as you'll see in the comments ... thanks Sue and Samir! I got one of these for Laura's birthday]

These are all over Singapore

  1. Thats known in Jordan as Majnooni (the crazy plant) and it’s English name is Bouganvillia, named after some island somewhere I believe. This is its usual colour , but more delicate varieties can be orange, pale pink or white. I’m sure Dad will give you loads of low down when he wakes up.

  2. Thanks a million Mum! Majnoonis, of course! I couldn’t remember the name, even though they are all over Jordan, but now that you’ve said the name I can’t believe I ever forgot it! All my love xx

  3. Hi Abu lur

This is the commonest plant in Jordan, in the moutains the color you have selected but in the Jordan valley more tender variety like the white yellow, red, velvet, peach colour etc around 10 different colours, called Majnonih as it grows mad around the house.

The flowers you see on them are not actually flowers but tender leaves they turn diffrent colours. When fully mature it gives a spectactular display, it cost 25 pence to 50p a tree. here, it is not very popular here as it is considered too common. You could grow it in containers which keeps in check if you have a balcony, it is quick growing abnd gives a lovely display. I must think that Singapore climate is very suitable to it as it is humid, it thrives even better in the Palestine as the climate nearer the Med which have more dew.
    Hope this information is useful.

  4. Hi Dad!

Thanks! That’s really useful. Yes, we’re thinking of getting some plants to put on the balcony, and its great if its quite hardy as we’ve not had much success with some other plants we bought.. Will let you know how it goes.. Big thunderstorms here right now and VERY heavy rain. Its quite spectacular!

    Love to you and Mum,

    Abulaur xx
